Day One of the Ugly Cyborg Writing Month

We’ve started!

Welcome to November and the Angry Cyborg Writing Month. I will keep this post brief and let us get to writing.

* What are we doing here? This is a 30 day practice of writing 30 minutes a day, ideally with no internet and as few distractions as possible.

* When are we doing it? Daily-ish for the month of November. I’ll offer some structure to start up and some on Sundays and Fridays, but otherwise just write, check-in, repeat.

November 1. Introductions

November 2. Intentions for the month

November 3. Daily Practice

November 4. Daily Practice

November 5. Are AI bans ableist?

* Why are we doing this practice? For community. For depth. For resistance. 30 days of 30 minutes won’t liberate humanity, but it’s a start.

* How do I check in?

Reply to the post on substack or facebook, or if you are feeling more private or less social media, reply to the email I sent. You can also sign up with the button on the main page of https://www.uglycyborg.com/ which is the home for my practice. Write about anything you want to, we will talk more tomorrow about intentions for the month. You can check in however you wish, but I will be using this format.

Daily Check In 2026.11.0N

What went well?

What was a challenge?

What will you do tomorrow?

* Who is doing this? Great question! The topic for today is introduction! A handful of folks have said they would benefit from the practice, retired folks, busy scholar moms, a wide range of writers seeking structure. Please introduce yourself with your check in today. Tell us who you are as a writer. Do you love editing and hate blank pages? Leave aside the titles and the statuses. Who are you with writing?

I am a writer who loves big ideas and the blank page. I am a writer who feels isolated and wants to gather some other writers. I am an angry cyborg, more about that later. I am a writer who hates small talk and if I see you in the halls, I’d rather talk to you about this group instead of the usual small complaints. Or we can talk about the weather. That is always good.

There is a lot we can’t control. But we can use our words carefully.
